Writing is like photography

Photography Writing Blog

So here I am at the beginning of an open and uncertain future as a blogger. The writing experiment wasn’t really “real” writing, but rather editing the ChatGPT output.

Since I am more familiar with photography, I have been thinking about which principles from photography can also be applied to writing. Here is an initial short list, which I will probably have to expand or amend over time and with future experience.

Parallels between photography and writing:

  • Stay true to your own convictions and your authentic self. Otherwise you are only a contributor to the global internet cacophony.
  • Don’t compare yourself to others, because that weakens your personality.
  • Your work is not for everyone. And even if you have addressed your target group clearly and precisely, not everybody within that target group will like your work.
  • Discipline, joy and conviction - every single day. You can only progress through continuous work. The journey is the reward.
  • Ignore negative voices, both those of others and your own.
